State Migration Plans and other Skilled visas

We aim to change peoples lives by providing quality advice, excellence in customer service and giving attention to the smallest detail..

The Australian government have tightened substantially the criteria for skilled migration. Heavy emphasis is now on nominating an occupation on the various State Migration Plans. By doing so processing is normally around 6 months and the passmark is just 100 points (instead of 120 points).

Be aware though that the points test (subject to legislation passing) will change substantially on the 1st July 2011. It will at that point become much harder to meet the passmark. We believe this is a deliberate ploy to reduce the application rate so that DIAC can tackle the huge backlog of cases they currently have (upwards of 2 year backlog). So if you meet the current points test, you may want to apply before the 1st July 2011 changes.

Skilled Points Test - 175, 176, 885, 886, 475, 487 etc

Initial information on calculating your points to see if you will meet the passmark is available here .. 2010 Skilled Points Test.

The general processing time is from 4 months to 48 months depending on which priority you come under (see DIAC Processing Times link).

Employer Nominated - 119, 121, 856, 857

This involves an Australian company proving to the Immigration authorities that they have a highly skilled vacancy, that they train their existing employees to improve their skills, and that they are financially sound. Then the visa applicant needs to show they have the required skills for the position.

Much of the paperwork for this kind of visa is required from the company (rather than the visa applicant). If you have any questions or wish to have an assessment done, please drop us a line to iscah.

The general processing is from 2-6 months.
