The Australian government have tightened substantially the criteria for skilled migration. Heavy emphasis is now on nominating an occupation on the various State Migration Plans. By doing so processing is normally around 6 months and the passmark is just 100 points (instead of 120 points). Be aware though that the points test (subject to legislation passing) will change substantially on the 1st July 2011. It will at that point become much harder to meet the passmark. We believe this is a deliberate ploy to reduce the application rate so that DIAC can tackle the huge backlog of cases they currently have (upwards of 2 year backlog). So if you meet the current points test, you may want to apply before the 1st July 2011 changes.
