WGC Minutes – Committee meeting 21st November 2009

Present :           Graeme, Steven, Greg, Stan, John

Absent :            Chris, Troy, Mike

  • Minutes from last meeting were read and accepted
  • Discussion took place on the new handicapping system. Greg suggested that it was going to be significant more work for each card given that each score has to be changed to a stableford score first. It was decided to look at some available software that would help calculate the handicaps under the new system (seems around $70 total). And then try out a few rounds to see what impact it has on the handicappers job. Also maybe Greg will need some help with other functions of the handicapper due to the extra time it will take. No decision was yet made as to whether to implement the new system in line with Australian golf from 1st February 2010. More discussion next meeting
  • There was no treasurers report due to Troy being away
  • Graeme explained that it was difficult to have full fixtures up for the summer competition as many courses now only open up for bookings two weeks prior to the playing date. He advised that playing dates will be weekends starting 5th December, 19th December, 9th January. More dates to follow.
  • A challenge match is being organised against a Marri Park Sunday social club in a Presidents/Ryder cup format. It will be 12 of our players against 12 of their players on a Sunday matchplay “in the week between” our normal fixtured games in January 2010. Both teams can choose the 12 how the wish but general agreement was given to us playing a Marri Park fixture on the weekend of the 9th January and that to be used as a “Qualifying” round to get into the team. The TOP TEN will be automatic choices if they are available for the fixture and then we will select players further down the finishing order of the day if we need to until we have the TEN players. The 11th and 12th players are then captain’s picks. Lee Miners as a life member has agreed to be the non playing captain of the day for this inaugural season. A trophy to be made for the fixture and both clubs to pay half each. Some discussion took place as to whether the twelve matchplay matches should be seeded so that players play each other on handicaps relatively close to each other, or whether it be a random draw. For further discussion…
  • Next meeting is penciled in for late December at Marri Park, to be advised
