DIBP will introduce the long awaited PR pathway for New Zealand citizens from July 1st 2017

    The legislation has not been published. It will be an additional stream of the 189 visa.

    The main criteria being

– must have arrived in Australia as a NZ citizen between 26/2/2001 and 19/2/2016
– have been usually resident in Australia for the five years immediately prior to visa application
– contributed to Australia, demonstrated through the last 4 income tax returns (Notice of Assessment) for the period of residence (5 years) evidencing taxable income at or above the Temporary Skilled Migration Income Threshold (TSMIT) – currently $53,900
– complete mandatory health, character, and security checks

There are a number of concessions available also.

Main Benefits of being a PR :
– Be able to become an Australian citizen after 12 months
– PRs can sponsor partners and relatives for Permanent Residence
– Any children born to you in Australia become Australian citizens at birth
– Increased employment opportunities
– Some organisations have cheaper products and education for PRs
– Protects you from any future changes in the current Special Category Visa for NZ citizens

Note that NZers who apply for this new PR visa will not be affected by the new citizenship rules and will be able to apply for citizenship with just 12 months of permanent residence

ALSO DIBP have confirmed with us that dependent family members on ANY substantive visa (not just 461 visa) CAN be included in this application with a New Zealand citizen to gain permanent residence.

    Main applicant – $3670
    Adult partner and children over 18 – $1835 each
    Children under 18 – $920 each
