1st July 1999 Points Test

Skill Level
60 points Specific degree/or trade certificate occupations + 12 of last 18 months in (any) skilled occupation.
50 points Generic Degree + 2 of last 3 years in (any) skilled occupation.
40 points Diploma level + 2 of last 3 years in (any) skilled occupation.

If you have received an Australian qualification that required at least 12 months full time study in the 6 months before you lodge your application, you do NOT need the above work experience to gain those points.


Age
30 points 18-29 years of age
25 points 30-34 years of age
20 points 35-39 years of age
15 points 40-44 years of age


English
20 points Competent level english (IELST score of at least 6 in each of the 4 components)
15 points Vocational level english (IELTS score of at least 5 in each of the 4 components)

You need to have at least Vocational level of english.


Additional Factors
Experience for 3 out of 4 years…
5 points If in Occupation which attracts 40/50 points
10 points If in Occupation which attracts 60 skilled points


Spouse Skills
5 points If spouse meets the threshold criteria of skill, age, english.


Australian Qualifications
5 points- Obtained an Australia degree, diploma, trade certificate having studied in Australia for at least 12 months.


Bonus Points
5 points For one of
1) Capital investment - $100,000 in Australia,
2) Recent Australian work experience of 6 months in last 4 years in skilled occupation
3) Fluency in a Community Language.


Sponsorship
15 points If an Australian relative can sponsor you - maximum is 15 points.


Occupational Targetting

5 points Occupation on modified Priority Occupation List


Job offers
5 points Has to be a job offer on Priority Occupation List. Employer must have employed 10 people fulltime for 2 years.

Other changes
Assurances of support (without the medical fees) will be required for Skilled Australian linked for new applications after 1/7/99.

Applicants being processed under the old (pre 1/7/99) rules MAY be given the option of applying for the new categories after 1/7/99 if it is thought that they have a better chance of meeting the pass mark. At no cost.
