Visitor Visas

Australia allows people to visit Australia for a variety of reasons. This includes visits to see relatives, business visits, medical treatment visits and general tourists.

The general criteria for any of these categories are that

1) You have enough funds to support yourself for the visit.

2) You can prove that the reasons for wanting to visit Australia are genuine and can be supported by documents if required.

3) You have an incentive to return to your home country after the visit.

Normal Visitor Visas

The application form that you need is form 48 or for some 'high risk' countries form 48R. These can be e-mailed on request from Application Forms

The latest fee can be found on the Application Fees page.

Business Visits

The application form that you need is form 456. This can be e-mailed on request from Application Forms.

The latest fee can be found on the Application Fees page.

Electronic Travel Authority (ETA)

There is no application form required for this. Also there is just a small administration fee payable. The visa is granted electronically. The Immigration authorities computer systems have all the details required and so you only get a small piece of paper as evidence.

Only citizens of approved low risk countries are eligible for this visa and can apply over the internet for it at Electronic Travel Authorities.

General processing times can be anywhere from on the spot depending on the documentation you provide and whether circumstances to do with the country you are applying from, your age, your financial circumstances, etc make you a risk to overstaying your visitor visa.
