Here is the official DHA calculations on how Accountants ended up with just 1000 places

Occupation ceilings for 2020/21 using ATO data “Labour Force, Australia,Detailed,

Quarterly, Feb 2020”. Noting occupation ceilings only apply to subclass 189 and 491 –
Family Sponsored. See attached Working Spreadsheet.

Percentages as advised by Policy are:
· Accountant – 2.5%
· Chef – 3%
· All other occupations – 6%

Accountants have an additional calculation, provided by Policy in 2017.
Method:
4,478 ABS employment stock data for Accountants, as at February 2020 quarter (196.26
thousand x 2.5% x 1,000)
3,850 ENS/RSMS and Skilled Nominated/Skilled Regional (subclass 186, 187, 190, 489, 491,
494) grants for Accountants from 1/07/2019 to 31/05/2020 (primary applicants only).
Plus a forecast of XXX grants for June 2020 (yet to be included).

Due to an increase in grants, the ceiling for Accountants is significantly lower than 2019/20 which was 2,746 and this is without adding the June grants forecast
